Things change and in some situations, timing is everything. As most Oly Lax supporters know, Amy Erickson served as the Girls Head Varsity Coach for years were she helped shape the direction of the team and guided the girls to their first-ever state championship. At the conclusion of last season, Amy stepped down to spend more time with her growing family. We will be forever grateful to her and her assistant coach, Madison for all of the time, talent and effort they gave to our girls and Oly Lax. THANK YOU!
As we step into the 2019 spring season, we are pleased to introduce our new Lady Titan Varsity Coaching staff, Hanna Thatcher and Katie Spencer. Both were not only talented collegiate lacrosse players, but also former Lady Titans!
Head Varsity Coach Hanna Thatcher has been playing lacrosse since 5th grade. While playing for Olympus HS, Hanna was a varsity starter and awarded 2nd team all-state, 1st team all-state two times (junior and senior years), defensive MVP for the State of Utah and the first ever recipient of the Jackie Pitts award in Utah. After high school, Hanna played lacrosse at BYU, starting as a freshman. She served a mission in Arcadia, California for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and upon returning home, played for BYU lacrosse another semester but was unable to continue for medical reasons. Although unable to play on the field, she continued to share her passion and knowledge of the sport by coaching at Lone Peak High School under Nikki Dabrowski. Hanna graduated from BYU with a degree in Athletic Training and will soon apply to graduate schools to become a physician’s assistant.
Assistant Varsity Coach Katie Spencer (formerly Adams) played for Olympus HS all four years as a varsity starter and during her time there, received 1st team all-state, 2nd team all-state and All American honorable mention. After high school, Katie went on to play lacrosse at Westminster, starting all four years and serving as a team captain during her senior year. As a Westminster Griffin, Katie received defensive and offensive player or the week, All-RMAC second team, First Team All-Academic and RMAC academic honor roll. Since graduating from Westminster with her nursing degree, she have been working in the Burn Trauma Intensive Care Unit and occasionally working as a certified referee at high school lacrosse games. She is married with two dogs.
As former Titans, both coaches have a love and passion for Oly Lacrosse. "We are so excited to be rejoining the Olympus Lacrosse community and look forward to working with all of you. GO OLY!" says coach Thatcher. Watching a practice session or a game, you will quickly notice the drive these coaches have. Drawing from both their high school and college experience as well as their deep lacrosse IQ and skillset, they are able to get the best out of their players. But more than that, they are both great role models and take a personal interest in all of the girls both on and off the field.
We are excited for what the new season and coaches will bring this spring. Thanks Hanna and Katie for stepping up and giving back to Olympus Lacrosse. Good luck and GO OLY!!!
